What a 8th grade student learns in Math
Eighth-grade mathematics centers on linear equations and systems, the concept of a function and modeling with linear functions, geometric transformations leading to congruence and similarity, the Pythagorean Theorem, and analyzing bivariate data. Students also solidify work with irrational numbers, integer exponents, and scientific notation at full grade-8 rigor.

- 13Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find unknown side lengths and to determine distances in the coordinate plane
- 14Know and apply the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres
- 15Construct and interpret scatter plots for bivariate measurement data and describe patterns of association
- 16Use linear models to fit bivariate data and interpret the slope and intercept in context
- 17Construct and interpret two-way tables summarizing bivariate categorical data and describe possible associations
